Rose in Italian Pine

My Art

All items featured on this site were designed and created by me, Rick Wright. I especially enjoy woodturning and relief carving (as seen above), which are both very time consuming. I thought retirement would provide me the needed time. Boy was I mistaken! I'm busier than ever now.

I create bowls, vases, platters, hollow vessels, pencil holders, mortar & pestles, clocks, miniature birdhouses, ornaments, lidded containers, and anything else I can envision.  Every item is unique, since no two pieces of wood are exactly alike.

How I Got Started

With a degree in ornamental horticulture, I began my career in the wholesale/retail nursery business. The last fifteen years of my career were spent as the Campus Landscape Manager for Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi.

I began working at "MUW" in 1993, just after a tornado had destroyed many of the large trees on the front of campus. Later another tornado took down trees in the back of campus and "straight line" winds destroyed trees in the middle of campus. The clean-up and removal of damaged trees became my responsibility. I decided to find a way to use the wood rather than paying to have it hauled to the local dump only to be destroyed. I already owned an old ShopSmith lathe and decided to give woodturning a try. Thus began my second career as a woodturner and woodcarver.

I am a member of:

The American Association of Woodturners

The National Wood Carvers Association.
